We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Design Estimator to join our growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to launch their career in fire and security system design and estimating, with full training and support provided.
The successful candidate will work alongside our experienced engineering and commercial teams, developing the skills needed to produce accurate cost estimates and system designs across fire alarm, intruder alarm, CCTV, access control, and integrated life safety systems.
Key responsibilities will include:
Estimating & Costing
- Support the development of cost estimates based on client specifications, site surveys, and tender documents.
- Assist in creating Bills of Materials (BOMs) and detailed breakdowns for labour, materials, and subcontractors.
System Design
- Learn to design fire detection, security, and integrated systems to current standards (e.g., BS 5839, BS 6266, BS EN 50131, NSI, etc.).
- Assist in producing system schematics, layout drawings, and specification compliance documentation using AutoCAD or other design tools.
- Develop an understanding of relevant standards, client requirements, and project scope.
Tender and Proposal Support
- Support the preparation of bid packages and formal proposals for clients.
- Assist the sales and project teams during the pre- and post-bid process.
- Attend site visits or client meetings where appropriate.
Collaboration
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and the sales team to develop your understanding of design, pricing, and delivery.
- Build relationships with external consultants, main contractors, and end-users under guidance.
About you
- Some experience or a qualification in an engineering, construction, or technical discipline is desirable but not essential.
- An interest in fire detection, security systems, access control, or CCTV.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to read or willingness to learn to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Good time management and written communication skills.
- A positive, can-do attitude and eagerness to learn.
