We are looking for an experienced and self-driven Senior Commissioning Engineer for our Fire team with a strong background in project engineering.
You will lead the commissioning of complex fire detection and alarm systems, ensuring full functionality, compliance, and handover. Drawing on your project engineering expertise, you’ll also contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of projects from pre-commissioning through to completion.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role ideal for someone who enjoys both technical delivery and strategic project input.
Key responsibilities will include:
Commissioning duties
- Commission addressable and conventional fire detection systems to BS 5839 and other relevant standards (e.g., BAFE, LPCB).
- Configure and test fire alarm panels (e.g., Ampac, Advanced, Gent, Kentec).
- Carry out cause & effect testing and system integrations (e.g., with access control, BMS, voice alarms).
- Produce and maintain commissioning plans, progress reports, and documentation.
- Perform site surveys and diagnostics on fire systems and resolve faults.
- Support witness testing and formal system handover to end clients.
- Ensure all systems meet technical specifications and customer expectations.
Project Engineering Duties - Provide technical input throughout the lifecycle of fire protection projects—from design reviews to delivery.
- Assist with project planning and coordination of design, installation and service teams.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and scope of work documents.

- Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor progress and report project risks or issues to the project/operations manager.
- Support and mentor site-based engineers with technical guidance.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of Fire and Security projects – design, installation, commissioning and handover.
- Desirable skills
- FIA Units 1, 4, and 5 (Design, Installation, Maintenance, Commissioning)
- ECS/CSCS card (preferably black or gold)
- Electrical qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds 2365, 2391, NVQ Level 3)
- SMSTS/SSSTS or IOSH Managing Safely
- Experience in integrated systems or multi-disciplinary fire/security projects
