Frocester Group has completed the design and build of a new IVF clinic in Edinburgh for Genus Medical, working alongside specialist partner Krypton Building Services to deliver the security, access control and life-safety systems throughout the facility.
The project has transformed the site into a fully operational fertility clinic, with dedicated procedure rooms, an embryology laboratory, consultation rooms and patient-facing reception and waiting areas – all finished to the exacting clinical standards an IVF facility demands.
Security and access control at the core
Because an IVF clinic handles sensitive patient care, embryology work and controlled environments, security and access management were central to the brief, including:
- Automatic entrance door systems for smooth, controlled access into the clinic
- Paxton access control on clinical doors, including full interlocking between spaces such as the procedure/theatre areas; including Panic Buttons
- Paxton door intercoms at key internal access points
- A fully monitored intruder alarm system, including panic alarms for staff safety
- Apollo fire detection devices installed throughout the building
- AMPAC fire alarm systems, providing early detection and warning across the building
- An integrated Cameo disabled refuge system, ensuring safe evacuation provision for all patients and visitors
- Hanwha internal & external CCTV, giving comprehensive camera coverage of the clinic and its surroundings
Together, these systems give Genus Medical a facility that protects patients, staff and sensitive clinical areas, while meeting the fire and life-safety standards required of a modern healthcare building.
A clinic built for specialist care
Beyond security, the fit-out includes purpose-built clinical spaces: procedure rooms fitted with surgical lighting and scrub facilities, and a dedicated embryology laboratory equipped with laminar flow workstations and incubation equipment – reflecting the precise, controlled conditions IVF treatment requires. Patient-facing areas, including a reception and waiting space, were finished to a high specification to create a calm, welcoming environment for people attending the clinic.
