Pupil safeguarding, and Fire & Security Monitoring

Keeping Pupils Safe

Frocester Security supported St David’s Church of England Primary Academy with new pupil safeguarding measures for school arrivals and departures, alongside monitoring and maintenance of fire and intruder alarms.

For any school, pupil safeguarding is of paramount importance, and St David’s C of E Primary Academy had a desire to improve pupil safety during school arrivals and departures each day. The exemplary school, based in Moreton-in-Marsh, identified a potential health and safety and safeguarding risk, with pupils and parents waiting on the pavement outside the school at day’s start and end. Although most were accompanied by a parent or guardian, the historic school setup meant that pupils were potentially vulnerable to accidents and approaches at the roadside.

Frocester Security worked with St David’s to not only enhance the pre- and post-school safety of the children in their care, but also to design additional enhancements to the already robust security practices. Within the school boundary, we designed and created a 100m pathway, enclosed with more than 300m of fencing standing at 2m high, creating a secure waiting area adjacent to the road. Access control and an intercom systems ensures that the safety zone is only accessible by parents, pupils and authorised personnel, creating a much safer area for morning and afternoon waiting, as well as onsite security. Considerations included pupil safety, emergency vehicle access, practicality for parents including the use of prams for example, and optimal layout within the school estate. The enhanced perimeter protection has elicited extremely positive feedback from parents, and has served to further highlight St David’s commitment to exemplary safety standards.

In addition to the pupil safeguarding, Frocester has also taken on the maintenance and monitoring of the fire and intruder alarm systems.

The team at Frocester worked closely with us to select the right perimeter fencing for our school to provide the security we very much needed but also make sure it would blend well into the local surroundings.  The team helped us to work out where to site gates in order to allow access for emergency vehicles and accommodate our school families with pick up and drop offs. The new tarmac path laid inside the existing perimeter wall leads to the new main entrance point for parents and it is wide enough for a double buggy. This allows safe access for all and provides a waiting area too.

We are delighted with the end result and also the installation team who were incredibly helpful and very understanding about the needs of the school.  Nothing was too much trouble for them and we cannot recommend them highly enough.
